Early Childhood / Elementary & Elementary / Middle Mathematics Education

Core 15 credits for all K - 8 Education Majors
If you wish to obtain your degree in elementary education, you may complete your preparation for the basic teaching license in a four year program. You should choose Early Childhood/Elementary or Elementary/Middle Level. Either level choose, you
.3 must take the following core 15 credits of mathematics:
- 12 total credits of MTH 211, 212, 213 (transfer students with less than 12 credits, please stop by the Mathematics Department office)
- 3 credits of MTH 396 Elementary Problem Solving
MTH 211, 212, 213 are prerequisites for the math focus classes you will take and can be used as part of the BS mathematics/computer science graduation requirement.
Early Childhood/Elementary with a Mathematics Concentration:
You will select two concentrations of nine hours each. If you choose a mathematics concentration, you must take three more courses, as noted below:
Choose one:- MTH 392 College Algebra for Elementary Teachers (Prerequisite: MTH 213)
- MTH 111 College Algebra (MTH 392 is strongly recommended)
Choose two:
Elementary/Middle Level Authorizations (without a Mathematics Concentration)
You will select one concentration of eighteen hours. In addition to the 15 total credits of MTH 211, 212, 213, 396, if you choose to pursue an Elementary/Middle Authorization, regardless of concentration, you must take the following courses:

- MTH 395 Elementary Integrated Mathematics Prerequisite
- MTH 398 Discrete Mathematics for Elementary Teachers
- MTH 492 Introduction to Abstract Algebra for Middle School Teachers
- MTH 494 Geometry for Middle School Teachers Prerequisite
- MTH 495 Calculus for Middle School Teachers Prerequisite
Elementary/Middle Level Authorizations (with a Mathematics Concentration)
If you choose a mathematics
concentration with an Ellementary/Middle Authorization, in addition to the 15 total credits of MTH 211, 212, 213, 396, you must take the following courses:
