Core 15 credits
for all K - 8 Education Majors
Students wishing to
obtain their degree in elementary
education, may complete their preparation
for the basic teaching license in
a four year program. The students
should choose Early Childhood/Elementary
or Elementary/Middle Level. You must take 12 total credits of MTH 211, 212, 213 (transfer students with less than 12 credits, please stop by the Mathematics Department office)
MTH 211, 212, 213
are prerequisites for the math focus
classes you will take and can be
used as part of the BS mathematics/computer
science graduation requirement.
After the initial
12 credits of MTH 211, 212, 213, for either the Early Childhood/Elementary or the Elementary/Middle authorization leve,l you must take
an additional 3 hours of math:
Early Childhood/Elementary
with a Mathematics Focus
You will also select
two concentrations of nine hours
each. If you choose a mathematics
concentration you must take three more courses, as noted below:

- MTH 392 College Algebra for Elementary Teachers (Prerequisite: MTH 213)
- MTH 111 College Algebra (MTH 392 is strongly recommended)

Elementary/Middle Level Authorizations
You will also select one concentration of eighteen hours. In addition to the 15 total credits of MTH 211, 212, 213, 396, each student pursuing an Elementary/Middle Authorization, regardless of concentration, must take the following courses:
