Question and Answer
Question:
I have credit for Math 95. Do I have to take the placement test?
Answer:
Math 95 is the prerequisite to Math 105, 111 and 211. If you wish to take one of these courses, you do not have to take the math placement test, however, you must bring documentation showing all of the following to the mathematics department secretary who will assist you with the registration procedures.
- Name of the institution the course was taken at
- Your name and social security number
- Your grade of C- or better in Math 95
Question:
The prerequisite for the course I wish to take is Math 095 or satisfactory placement. I have credit for Math 105 at WOU. Do I have to take the placement test?
Answer:
IF YOU HAVE TAKEN MATH 095
- If you have already taken Math 095 and passed with a grade of C- or better, then you do not need to take the placement test if the prerequisite for your course is Math 095.
IF YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN MATH 095
- If you have already taken the COMPASS placement test and placed at a level higher than Math 095, then you do not need to retake the placement test if the prerequisite for your course is Math 095.
- If you enrolled in Math 105 at WOU or any other institution without placement test placement in Math 105, then you do need to take the placement test if the prerequisite for your course is Math 095. Please see the mathematics department secretary.

Question:
I have not passed the placement test, but I know that I will do OK in the course that I need. I have spoken to my friends and they tell me that I can succeed in the course that I need without passing the mathematics placement test.
Answer:
The placement test covers prerequisite material that you need to know in advance of enrolling in a mathematics course. If you cannot pass the placement test, then the WOU Mathematics Department does not have evidence that you know the needed prerequisite material. You must take the placement test. Please see the mathematics department secretary.

Question:
I do not see my question here, should I contact the professor scheduled to teach the course I wish to take?
Answer:
If your question is not here, please ask the mathematics department secretary for help. If your question needs to be answered by a member of the mathematics department faculty, then she will refer you to the correct faculty member, this is often not the professor scheduled to teach the course. The mathematics department faculty is not available to answer mathematics placement test questions if you have not checked in with and been referred by the mathematics department secretary first.
