CWOSE

The Central Western Oregon Science Expo

The Central Western Oregon Science Expo will meet on Friday March 12 / Saturday March 13, 2004. The meeting will be held in Werner Center at Western Oregon University. CWOSE is a joint meeting of the Oregon Junior Academy of Science (OJAS), Junior Science and Humanities Symposium - JSHS (Sponsored by American Academy of Applied Sciences and the military), and the Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF).

Oregon Junior Academy of Science OJAS and Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) are statewide oral science competitions that have thus far drawn upward of 100 participants each year. Participants range from middle school to high school in age. JSHS awards significant scholarships to outstanding presenters at the regional and national meetings. Dr. Adele Schepige, Dr. Arlene Courtney, and Dr. Jeff Myers of WOU direct these symposia. JSHS finalists receive scholarships and the opportunity to attend the National JSHS meeting.
The Intel Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is a poster competition sponsored by the Intel Corp., and is open to middle and high school students. Our region includes Benton, Lane, Linn, Lincoln, Marion, Polk, Tillamook and Yamhill counties, along with unaffiliated regions of central Oregon. Regional winners obtain scholarships and the opportunity to present at the State ISEF (the Northwest Science Expo), and ISEF international fair. The ISEF international meeting will be held in Portland in May, 2004. Regional Directors of the ISEF West Central Oregon Region are Dr. David Hackleman (OSU Linus Pauling Chair in Chemical Engineering, Hewlett Packard Corp.) and Jeff Myers.
