BI211X, Biology XL1, 1 Cr., P/N a single 2 hour meeting each week Fall, 1999

BI212X, Biology XL2, 1 Cr., P/N a single 2 hour meeting each week Winter, 2000

BI213X, Biology XL3, 1 Cr., P/N a single 2 hour meeting each week Spring, 2000

These classes are intended to increase student success and retention in BI211, BI212 and BI213. BiologyXL students spend each class period working in teams of three or four under the supervision of the instructor or upper division student peer tutors on challenge problems that cover the material currently being presented in BI211, BI212 and BI213. Students experience increased contact with the course content, mastery of course content by using it to solve problems, establish learning communities with their fellow students, and interact with successful upper division students. Biology XL students also observe and practice effective study skills that can be applied in all of their classes. These courses are modeled after successful courses at the University of Texas, the University of Kentucky and Oregon State University.

Students enrolled in BI211X must be simultaneously enrolled in BI211 and BI211L; BI212X requires simultaneous enrollment in BI212 and BI212L, BI213X requires simultaneous enrollment in BI213 and BI213L. BI211X, BI212X and BI213X credit is earned by participation in all meetings of the class; this credit cannot be applied to any major or minor or to the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
