Pirandello, With Other Eyes, A Character's Tragedy, Mrs. Frola and Mr. Ponza...

1. In general, how do these stories present "reality"? Why is the difference between illusion and reality important? "With Other Eyes"

2. What symbolism is involved with the picture found by Anna-- the way she discovers it, where it's been kept, her changing views of the woman in it? "A Character's Tragedy"

3. What attitudes towards story-telling come across?

4. What advantages might there be to "conversing" with one's characters?

5. How does the "philosophy of distance" relate to the narrator's attitude? "Mrs. Frola and Mr. Ponza..."

6. How does the narrator's stance affect your reaction to the story?

7. Separating out the narrator's point of view as best you can, whose version would you believe, Mrs. Frola's or Mr. Ponza's? why?
