Students who wish to teach music must successfully fulfill the requirements for the BM in Contemporary Music and apply for the MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching: Initial Licensure) program. The MAT is a 4-term, post-baccalaureate program that leads to a Masters Degree in teaching and initial licensure in the state of Oregon. Students who have selected a major other than music and wish to pursue a minor in music will take a 30-hour minor which requires 15 hours of upper division course work (300-499 level) in addition to the first-year theory and aural skills core (15 hours). The 30-hour minor must be planned with and approved by a music (faculty) advisor.
The Performance Certificate is a non-degree program providing an intensive, two-year course of study in music performance (including composition) for those seeking music instruction outside a comprehensive music performance degree program. Requirements for the Performance Certificate include:
Applied Performance - 24 credit hours
Ensembles - 12 credit hours
