MUSIC STUDENT PROFILE

Casey S. Younger
Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music
Composition and Bass Performance

Junior

Casey is currently enrolled in the Western Oregon University music program studying upright bass and composition. In his time at Western he has composed a number of orchestral works, his latest, Memoir of Lament is a five movement work based on the five stages of grief. The fourth movement, Dissension can be found on this site. Along with orchestral works he has written a suite for piano called "The Beauty of War." Also recently he has a choral work that is nearly performance ready based on the story of the prodigal son.

As a bassist Casey has focused his studies on mainly classical, but has also studied jazz. He has played in many groups at WOU. Outside of his studies at Western, he has played in many groups ranging from pit orchestras in the Portland area to the Salem Big Band and some contemporary groups. The Newscast is one of the contemporary groups that he is involved with. Playing a pretty upbeat melodic style of rock he is able to keep his electric bass chops in tip top shape.
