MUSIC STUDENT PROFILE

Zachary Taylor
Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music
Cello Performance

Senior

My name is Zachary Taylor, and I am currently an undergraduate student at Western Oregon University studying cello performance. I started studying cello in the fourth grade in my hometown of Salem, Oregon, under Gordon Ogo in an orchestral setting. I began taking private lessons in the sixth grade, and took them off and on through high school. My first experience with chamber music was in a string quartet in eleventh grade. Since then, I have always been a part of a chamber ensemble.

Chamber music is currently what I prefer to play. Since my time at WOU, I've been involved with many diverse ensembles, including a string quartet, string trio, piano quartet, piano trio, a new music group, an early music consort, and even a brazilian combo. I've played music in many styles, including early composers such as Monteverdi, later composers like Shostakovich, and others outside of classical, like Duke Ellington, and Antonio Jobim.

The group I focus on the most now is my string trio, whose members I've played with for four years. We started a business called "Synchronicity Strings." I mostly perform at weddings with this group, but we play at various functions too, such as events at a local senior center. The other members are Catheryn Kennedy on violin, and Melissa Jordan on viola.
