MUSIC STUDENT PROFILE

Becca Scott
Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music
Composition

Junior

Becca Scott was born in the small town of Forest Grove, OR, where she lived until leaving home to pursue music at the collegiate level. Her interest in music began as a child, sparked by her father, who had a PhD in Music and wrote songs as a hobby. In her childhood years, her home was always filled with music, mostly her father's piano playing and the radio, but she and her siblings began making up songs to sing. After her father's death in 1992, she realized how important music really was to her, and pursued piano lessons. She has played now for twelve years, and only started writing songs four years ago. Her compositions are usually about specific people she knows, and her soulful sound is heartfelt. Her inspiration is mainly drawn from piano based artists like Ben Folds, Billy Joel, and Elton John, but she loves pretty much all rock music, and some of her favorite artists include, but are not limited to, Chicago, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Queen, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, Journey, U2, Sting and The Police, and more recent groups, like Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, Incubus, Coldplay, Jason Mraz, Alicia Keys, The Killers, Weezer, and Rooney.
