MUSIC STUDENT PROFILE

Kaitlyn Roth
Bachelor of Arts in Music
Vocal Performance

Junior

Kaitlyn, a mezzo-soprano, is currently a junior at Western Oregon University. She began vocal studies two years ago and is excited to be continuing them this fall. She is involved with Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and the Singer/Songwriter combo at Western and has also been involved with the jazz ensemble for the past two years. She has also participated in vocal events, such as the competition for the National Association of Teachers of Singing and has sang in productions at Western, such as last year’s presentation of Handel's "Messiah."

Though she would love to learn to play the harmonica sooner than later, Kaitlyn also dabbles in playing piano and guitar and contemporary song writing. She has performed her various compositions with the Singer/Songwriter combo.

Kaitlyn feels that music is very important because it can bring all types of people together and can be used as a tool of expression. She feels that the magical thing about music is its transparency.

Kaitlyn hopes to someday become a music therapist where she will be able to use music for the greater good all the time! Currently, she works part time at a coffeehouse in Dallas and helps to teach music once a week at a local junior high. She also helps lead worship Thursday nights for "The Escape" and enjoys rocking out with her best buds in their band, "The Newscast."
