Casey Ojua Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music Trombone Performance 5th-Year Senior
My name is Casey Ojua, and I am a musician.
I'm a very creative person who enjoys being different. I like staying active and creating time to spend with my family and friends. Music is a huge part of my life, as well as my church. I enjoy helping others and spending my free time outdoors.
My musical genesis began in 6th grade when a friend of mine convinced me to pick up the clarinet with her and take band (Already at an early age I was being led around by girls, sigh). I stayed on clarinet until I realized our band had no trombone players in it. The advanced band in middle school was playing Engines of Resistance and I really wanted to join in and play with the brass. I practiced the clarinet and trombone for about a year and fully transferred to the trombone. The next year I played baritone and tutored a 6th grader in beginning band while I continued playing trombone in advanced band. In high school I also picked up the tuba and went to Music in May and played 2nd chair trombone. My senior year I went to Music in May again and auditioned on tuba, got in and was awarded position of 1st tuba player (who would've though!?). I played with Lindfield College’s pep band for 2 years while attending high school too. I finally got to college and started practicing trombone. My sight-reading, tone, and attention span all started to develop at a reasonable rate. I rapidly became involved with every ensemble available to me as I transformed my social life and free time to Smith Hall time during the entire week. I began college with a fascination in jazz, but finally settled down to an equal interest of both jazz and classical music.
