Heather-Laura Howell Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music with Musical Theatre Emphasis Vocal Performance Senior
My name is Heather Howell and I am currently a music student at Western Oregon University. I am involved with two ensembles, the Western Oregon Chamber Singers and Concert Choir. Over the past three years, I have learned many valuable musical skills. My classes have covered music theory, lyric diction, vocal pedagogy, rock history, piano proficiency, and a variety of acting and dance courses. I also have gained valuable experience working as the assistant stage manager for Songs for a New World, the school musical in Spring 2007.
Before attending Western Oregon, I took courses at both Linn Benton Community College and Chemeketa Community College. At Linn Benton Community College, I sang in the concert and chamber choirs too. Education has always been a high priority in my life, so I have always maintained at-least a 3.8 G.P.A. I also became a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society more than a year ago. I was also Valedictorian of Philomath High School in 2001.
My music history has had an eclectic past. My origin as a singer began at Alsea School District where I sang with the school choir, participated in school plays, talent shows, and was a cheerleader. I have had the opportunity to win first, second, and third place at the Benton County Fair Talent Show, and have performed at the Oregon State Fair Talent Show. I won the Oregon American Coed Pageant Talent Show and went on to sing at the nationals in Florida. Locally, I have performed with the country group Concrete Cowboys based in Corvallis and sang as part of a Jazz Quartet. My passion for musical theatre has led me to participate in the Corvallis Community Theatre productions of The Wizard of Oz and Little Shop of Horrors. Most recently, I spent a year as the Soprano Section Leader for Saint Mark’s Lutheran Church in Salem, Oregon.
I have been trained by a variety of amazing voice teachers including: Debra O'Donnell, Monica Stutzman (Corvallis Conservatory of Music), Hal Eastburn, Sandee Schadock, and Dr. Kevin Helppie. My repertoire has covered German, French, Italian, Latin, and Musical Theatre.
My ambition as a performer is to be a character trainer at Walt Disney World and to become professor of Music History and Ethnomusicology.
