Stuart Cregger Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music Composition and Guitar Performance Junior
I am currently a junior at Western Oregon University. I am majoring in music, specifically going for the Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music with a dual emphasis in composition/songwriting and guitar performance.
I first became interested in music as a teenager. When I was a freshman at North Marion High School, I purchased my first guitar. I began to play with my friends and soon we formed a rock band. After sporadic rehearsals and gigs I decided to join the pep and jazz bands at the high school. During my junior year of high school a new band director was hired. David Church was the new music director and was in charge of all music at the high school. He was very supportive of me and encouraged me to work hard and not to give up. He and I became very close and still remain good friends.
My senior year I was elected band president. This meant that I would be in charge anytime Mr. Church was not there. I was also responsible for conducting warm-ups and some rehearsals. I led the pep band and spoke for the band at all the gigs. Later that year, the concert band made it to State championships for 4A. We came out 6th, I believe. This experience among others made me decide to go to college to study music.
I currently play lead guitar and write songs with my band, The Newscast.
My musical influences are too numerous to name them all but I will try to name some. My favorite bands are The Who, The Beatles, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Pink Floyd, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Queen, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Rush, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Incubus, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Led Zeppelin, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Cream, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" Yes, Foo Fighters, HYPERLINK "http://www.myspace.com/" U2 and many more. My favorite guitarists include Pete Townshend, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Edge, B.B. King, David Gilmour, Brian May, Christopher Woitach and more.
