Rebecca Ball Bachelor of Music in Contemporary Music Vocal Performance Senior
For Rebecca Ball singing has always been a major part of her life. She grew up in the small town of Sandy, Oregon and was auditioning for solos in the school choirs at the age of six. Still too young for voice lessons, her parents allowed her to begin taking piano lessons, which she continued for six years. Once Rebecca was old enough she enrolled in voice lessons and became the Soprano section leader for her high school choir. Rebecca later attended Western Oregon University and strove toward a degree in Music Performance. While at Western many opportunities arose for her. She auditioned into the Western Oregon University Chamber Singers her freshman year and was also a part of the Concert Choir. That year the Chamber Singers traveled to New York and performed Mozart’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Dr. Solveig Holmquist. She appeared in Carnegie Hall again two years later. By her second year at Western Rebecca became the soprano section leader in both of her choirs. She also appeared in several musicals while at Western, including Kiss Me Kate, West Side Story, and Amahl and the Night Visitors. Above all, Rebecca enjoys performing in musicals and being involved in the process of creating such a wonderful art. Rebecca studied voice with Allison Swenson-Mitchell during her time at Western and continued to take private voice lessons from her after their time at Western. Currently Rebecca is singing in Festival Chorale Oregon under the direction of Dr. Solveig Holmquist. She has been with this group for a year and was the soprano soloist when they performed Schubert's Mass in G. Rebecca is finishing up her degree at Western and then plans to continue on to graduate school. She plans to get her graduate degree in education and become a middle school choir teacher. She loves the idea of bringing music to young students and hopefully inspiring them to continue on in music and develop a love and passion for the arts.
