The
final exam will be in a traditional essay format with 2 slides per question
to compare, contrast, and discuss in detail. The online image reserve
includes all the works for which you will be responsible. Identifications
of the images include a descriptive title, the name of the group that
produced the work, and the location (by country if possible). For
example: Fertility Doll/ Ashanti/Ghana. For each image in the online
reserve you should be able to discuss the following: iconography; function;
how, where, and by whom it was used; and how it enhanced, defined, or
reflected royal power. If an object is related to a myth or deity, be
prepared to give a brief account of the associated stories. As indicated
in class, your notes will be the primary source of information, supplemented
by the article on Aworan by Babatunde Lawal and entries in the textbook.
Bluebooks will be provided. No notes or outside source materials of any
kind may be used or referred to during the exam. NOTE: The slides
are grouped into pairs according to the way they will appear on the exam.
