The Art Department's flexible program is designed to help you develop creative problem-solving processes and to help you understand and master basic principles and skills in art and design. The art program stresses both theory and studio practice, beginning with a foundation in two-dimensional design, three-dimensional design, and drawing. Art history is included in art major requirements as a supplement to the study of art theory and practice.
Mission Cultivate a unified atmosphere of learning in the undergraduate programs of visual art through aesthetic research activities and artmaking, personalized learning and public service. The program teaches theory, philosophy and aesthetic awareness. Student and professional gallery exhibits contribute to the cultural environment of the campus and region.
