Things Passed Down

The Dan and Gail Cannon Gallery of Art at Western Oregon University is proud to announce a new exhibit, Things Passed Down, showcasing installations by two artists, SungEun Park and Terrence Heldreth. It runs from April 3 through April 26, 2013 with a reception for the artists on Wednesday, April 3 from 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public.

SungEun Park

SungEun Park was born in Seoul, Korea, in 1980. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 16 years old. She graduated from Maryland Institute, College of Art with a BFA in Painting and from Indiana University Bloomington with a MFA in Sculpture. Her current body of work explores the conflict between humanity's desperate hopes and reality. She focuses on how each side maintains their own energy in the tension of confrontation. SungEun uses her drawings, which start as the designs for installations, as central sources for her work. She has worked in galleries and museums in Korea and has participated in residencies and exhibitions both in the US and abroad. SungEun is currently an assistant professor of art at Western Oregon University.

Terrence Heldreth

Terrence Heldreth is a native of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He holds a BFA in sculpture from Northern Michigan University and an MFA in sculpture from Indiana University. He served as the Artist in Residence at the University of Oregon Craft Center for six years, has taught sculpture at Indiana University, and is currently the associate director of the University of Oregon Craft Center.
