"Daniel George Cannon: Painting a Life" Sept. 26 2012 through Oct. 26 2012
The Dan and Gail Cannon Gallery of Art at Western Oregon University is proud to announce its next exhibit showcasing five decades of paintings by Professor Emeritus Dan Cannon. "Daniel George Cannon: Painting a Life" will run from Sept. 26 through Oct. 26 and is open to the public.

Dr. Daniel George Cannon received his bachelor's from the University of Washington and a Doctorate in Art Education from Stanford University. Over his career he taught a myriad of disciplines including painting, fine crafts, and ceramics, eventually focusing on his favorite subject: art history. His students learned to broaden their perspective of the world by developing an appreciation for art in its varied forms. They also learned the value of expressing their emotions through art, and to recognize the importance of art in society.

Cannon has been an integral part of the arts community for many years, both nationally and locally. Among his many achievements he was president of the National Art Education Association in Washington D.C. and is a co-founder of River Gallery in Independence, Ore. He spent 30 years as a professor of art at Western Oregon University where, after retiring, he set up an endowment for the Dan and Gail Cannon Gallery of Art, leaving a legacy that will continue to support fine art and artists for years to come.

The Cannon Gallery of Art is located in the heart of Western Oregon University's campus in the beautifully renovated Campbell Hall. Campbell Hall was built in 1871 and is the oldest building still in use the Oregon University System. The gallery has approximately 700 square feet of exhibition space and holds six exhibitions during each academic year. Thematic and media-specific exhibits by regional and nationally acclaimed artists are included in each annual schedule.
