College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

About the College

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Western Oregon University is the largest of the two colleges on the campus. It is home to 118 tenure track faculty and approximately 90 adjunct faculty members in 7 divisions: Business and Economics, Computer Science, Creative Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Psychology and Social Science. Programs are housed in eleven buildings across campus.

In addition to serving students in degree programs offered in one of our seven divisions, the college also provides general education and pre-major course work for students pursuing degree programs offered in the College of Education.

Of importance to the student, a college is more than just buildings. Western attracts a special type of permanent and adjunct faculty member; individuals who enjoy teaching and who invest considerable time into mentoring students on how to tie classroom theory into real-world practical application. It is the faculty who have made this College not just a remarkable center of learning, but also the launch pad to the brightest possible future for so many students who pass through our portals. Through the efforts of the faculty and hard work on the part of students; we graduate students who move into stimulating and lifelong careers, who gain entrance into graduate and professional schools, and who look back on their formative years at Western with a mix of awe and affection; and yes, of regret.  Regret that they will be leaving a place that they have called "home."
