New International Student & Scholar Orientation

The Office of International Education and Development welcomes you to Western Oregon University and looks forward to your arrival at WOU!

The New International Student Orientation program aims to orient new international students and scholars to life in the United States and to Western Oregon University. Orientation is designed to provide our new international students with information about WOU, its policies and procedures, its campus and facilities, and the City of Monmouth and local resources. It is important for all new or transfer international students to attend orientation.

Below is the Tentative schedule for events and required check-in procedures such as the Health and Medical Screening and immigration document check-in.

Fall Term 2017

Wednesday, September 13

4:00PM-Early Move-in Check In-Hamersly Library, for students who have room assignments with WOU housing only. Afterwards, you will be directed to your assigned dormitories to check in and move-in.

Thursday, September 14
New Student Orientation Overnight Retreat: We will ride a bus to Aldersgate Camp in Turner, ORegon to spend the night. We will return to Monmouth the next day before 12PM. (See the following overnight retreat schedule)                   

Things to bring:

  1. Blankets, Pillows,
  2. Toiletries (toothbrush, face wash, towels, etc)
  3. Change of clothes and a warm jacket (in case it gets cold)

8:00AM Meet at Maaske Hall and be sure to have everything you need. Leave your belongings at Maaske Hall 114.                                  Check-in-ITC 211-Bring your Admission letter, I-20/DS-2019, Passport.                                                                                               You will be assigned to a group to attend all the following sessions.

  • WOU Network/WolfWeb account setup/overview
  • Campus Tour and WOU ID Card: bring your admission letter                                                                                                       

11:30AM-Bus leaves for retreat center                                                                                                                                    12:30PM-Arrive at camp and lunch at main lodge                                                                                                                       1:30PM-Orientation                                                                                                                                                                  3:00PM-T-Mobile sign up                                                                                                                                                     5:30PM-Dinner at main lodge                                                                                                                                                6:30PM-Student Life & Social Events into the night. Bring your questions!

Friday, September 15

7:30AM-Breakfast, clean up, and pack up – get ready to go by 9:00AM
12:00PM-Return to Monmouth                                                                                                                                                    12:00PM-BBQ Lunch and Welcome event for new international students hosted by the President of Western Oregon University (lawn behind Maaske Hall)                                                                                                                                                                1:30PMAcademic Advising and Registration. Students divide up and meet in separate groups                                                             

  • 2+2 and 3+1 transfer students
  • Freshman and Non 2+2 or 3+1 transfer students
  • Exchange students
  • All other Graduate students-Make appointments with advisors
