HOUSING selection – WHAT IS IT?

HOUSING SELECTION IS THE PROCESS USED BY INCOMING FIRST-YEAR AND TRANSFER STUDENTS WHOSE COMPLETED HOUSING APPLICATION IS RECEIVED BY 5 PM – JULY 28, 2019. THESE STUDENTS WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SELECT THE ROOM AND ROOMMATE(S) OF THEIR CHOICE ONLINE!

The Housing Selection process is entirely online – and is generally available in Mid-May through the month of July.

  • WHEN CAN I START UPDATING MY PREFERENCES AND LISTING MY ROOMMATES ON THE PORTAL?

Tentatively, we plan to open the link on student Housing Overview pages in mid-May to begin the process. The first thing(s) you will need to do are:

  1. Check on your requested roommates. Remember only confirmed roommates can be pulled in or have the ability to pull others in with their room selection. ONLY CONFIRMED ROOMMATES WILL SHOW UP AS AN OPTION TO BE PULLED IN WITHIN THE PROCESS.
  2. Check to see when your Selection start date and time are. Plan ahead so that you will be free when your start date/time roll around.
  • MY REQUESTED ROOMMATE DID THE ROOM SELECTION, DO I NEED TO DO IT AGAIN ?

If you and your roommate(s) did indeed request one another and confirmed one another in the preferences section, then you BOTH should receive a confirmation email letting you know what room you have reserved or been pulled into. If you DO NOT receive that email, you have NOT been pulled in and need to go back in the system and select the space with your roommate, or contact University Housing.

  • WHEN AND WHERE WILL I GET MY TIME-SLOT TO CHOOSE MY ROOM?

Your start date/time should be visible on your Housing Overview page by Mid-May.

  • WHAT DETERMINES MY SELECTION TIME-SLOT START TIME?

All selection time-slots are assigned based on when we received your completed current housing application. HOWEVER – Do Not Despair if you have a later time-slot. If you know someone with an earlier time-slot and you both want to be roommates, THAT person can – and SHOULD – use their earlier time-slot to go in, make their selection, and PULL YOU IN! (Provided that you BOTH listed each other as preferred roommates.)

NOTE: Once your time-slot begins, for the first 7-10 days, the selection system will be available from 3 to 6:00 pm daily. Once everyone has had the opportunity to make their selection, you will have access 24-7 to the system to look, make changes, etc. BE AWARE HOWEVER THAT THERE ARE TIME-SLOTS STARTING RIGHT BEHIND YOU – IF YOU TAKE LONGER TO MAKE YOUR CHOICE(S), IT COULD IMPACT THE SPACES THAT YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM. Be aware however, that any changes made after your original choice(s) have been confirmed WILL NOT INCLUDE YOUR ROOMMATES.
YOU CAN ONLY PULL ROOMMATES INTO YOUR ORIGINAL SELECTION.

  • WHAT IF I CHANGE MY MIND AND WANT A DIFFERENT ROOM?

Once your time-slot begins, you will have access 24-7 to the system to make any changes you want – until THE CHANGE DEADLINE: 5:00 PM, JULY 31st. Be aware however, that any changes made after your original choice(s) have been confirmed WILL NOT INCLUDE YOUR ROOMMATES.
YOU CAN ONLY PULL ROOMMATES INTO YOUR ORIGINAL SELECTION. IF YOUR ROOMMATE WANTS TO MOVE TO YOUR NEW ROOM SELECTION, THEY WILL ALSO HAVE TO GO INTO THE SYSTEM AND MAKE THAT NEW SELECTION.

  • WHAT IF THE HALL I WANT TO LIVE IN DOES NOT HAVE ANY OPEN ROOMS WITH SPACE FOR BOTH MYSELF AND MY ROOMMATE?

HERE IS THE DEAL: Lets say that you want to move into Ackerman Hall in the Fall and that both you and your roommate want to be in Ackerman’s Creative Arts Community. All the double rooms in that community just have one space open in them so that there are NO open double rooms where there is still space for both you and your roommate.

Now you need to decide – Is your priority to stay with your roommate – or is it to stay in Ackerman in your particular chosen community?

Think about what it is that you want. If you want to stay in that community – perhaps you and your roommate could choose open spaces in 2 rooms right next to each other?

If your priority is to stay with that roommate – then you can clear your search and look for different communities in Ackerman with open doubles, or go completely out of Ackerman and look at another hall where there are open doubles for you and your roommate to live together.

  • I PLAY BASEBALL (OR BASKETBALL, OR VOLLEYBALL, OR RUN TRACK) – AND I WANT TO LIVE WITH MY TEAMMATE. HOW DO I DO THAT?

MAKE SURE THAT BOTH YOU AND YOUR TEAMMATE HAVE BOTH REQUESTED ONE ANOTHER AS CHOSEN ROOMMATES. THIS CONFIRMS YOU BOTH AS  ROOMMATE CHOICES. Once you are CONFIRMED roommates, the person with the earliest selection start time needs to make sure that when they select a space that their chosen roommate(s) also show up in that selection. REMEMBER, only CONFIRMED roommates can be pulled into a selected space.

NOTE:  EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MAKING SURE THAT THEY RECEIVE A CONFIRMATION EMAIL THAT STATES THAT THEY HAVE BEEN PLACED IN A ROOM OR APARTMENT.  If you do NOT receive your confirmation email and you think that you should have – CONTACT THE HOUSING TEAM IMMEDIATELY!

  • WHAT TIME ZONE ARE THE START TIMES LISTED IN?

Currently all start times are listed for the Pacific Daylight Time Zone.  Take a look at this website to figure out what your start time will be wherever you happen to be.
