Current Research Interests:
My research examines behavioral, social, and environmental factors that support access to healthy food and safe environments for physical activity for youth and their families. I regularly collaborate with local government, community stakeholders, and non-governmental organizations to develop health promotion programs and policies that improve nutrition outcomes, food security, and physical activity. Currently my work focuses on supporting active teens’ (high school soccer players) life skills to manage weight and build an active, healthy lifestyle as they transition to young adulthood. I am especially interested in exploring the role of family support for sport participation among Latino youth, how youth sport participation shapes family meal practices, and how families preserve family meal time. These findings will be used to develop nutrition and physical activity programming for female youth.
