Common FAFSA Mistakes


  • Not filing early enough
    • WOU’s priority deadline for 2017-18 was February 1, 2017
    • WOU’s priority deadline for 2018-19 is February 1, 2018
  • Not entering your name exactly as it appears on your social security card
  • Not correctly reporting your parents’ marital status
  • Not using the Data Retrieval Tool to report your federal tax information
  • Entering the wrong anticipated year in school or wrong degree being pursued
  • Not having both student and parent signatures on the FAFSA
  • Completing the wrong year’s FAFSA
  • Making changes on your FAFSA after you’ve been awarded financial aid
