Basic Skills Test Information

Master of Arts in Teaching candidates are required to pass one of the following basic skills tests prior to admission. Registration bulletins for CBEST and ORELA are available in the MAT office in Education Building Room 202. PRAXIS information is only available online.

Regular registration test fee: $41

Passing scores

The CBEST is comprised of three sections. Candidates must score at least 37 points on each section; the total passing score for the entire test is 123 points. Candidates who score below the cut-off for any section are required to take that section over and will not be admitted until all sections have been passed.

 

Testing time

Candidates may take one, two or three sections at any given time. A total of four hours of testing are provided for all three sections.

 

 

CBEST - California Basic Educational Skills Test - COMPUTER-BASED

The computer-based CBEST is available during 12 testing windows annually on a first-come first-served basis. Each window contains five or six days available for testing.   • $40 registration fee
  • $30 for each test

Testing Time

Each test is scheduled for one hour in length.

 

Praxis I Academic Skills Assessment Computerized Pre-Professional Skills Test (CPPST)

Candidates have an option of taking the basic skills in a computer-based format. All three tests except the essay section are designed to present test items based on test taker performance. Those considering this form of basic skills test are advised to read the Praxis I: Acadamic Skills Assessment Tests at a Glance publication online or request a copy at 609-771-7395.
