Welcome! The Division of Teacher Education (DTE)
is based upon democratic ideals,

We are committed to facilitating
the learning and development of
our candidates who, in turn, can
successfully affect the learning
and development of P-12 students
in schools. We offer teaching
authorization in Early Childhood,
Elementary, Middle Level and High
School. Below you will find brief descriptions of teacher preparation programs offered by the DTE. |
Accredited by NCATE & Oregon's TSPC since 1954, we are one of only eight nationally accredited teacher preparation programs in Oregon. |

Undergraduate & Post-Baccalaureate
Initial Teaching License
Similarly structured while accommodating different populations, the undergraduate program leads to a bachelor's degree, while the post-bac program is for those who already hold a bachelor's degree and want to earn their first teaching license. The 38-41 credit hour program is in a full-time format, which takes three terms to complete. |

Master of Arts in Teaching
Initial Teaching License
The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program at WOU is designed to provide second career and non-traditional students an opportunity to earn initial teacher licensure, authorization to teach high school (middle school is optional), and a graduate degree. The MAT is 53 - 54 credit hours which are available as a full-time on-campus program or a part-time online program. |

Master of Science in Education
A 45 credit hour master's degree, the MSEd may be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. It meets Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission requirements for the Initial II License. There are also options to add additional endorsements and authorization levels to your existing teaching license. |

Master of Science in Education
Information Technology
An MSEd degree in Information Technology opens doors to teachers, trainers, and informal educators alike. Complete the program entirely online, or combine online and on-campus classes. Flexible schedules allow you to finish the degree in as few as five terms, or as many as five years. |

Office of Field Services and Teacher Licensure
The Office of Field Services and Teacher Licensure oversees teacher candidate placements during practicum and student teaching experiences. Staff provide guidance on, and insure adherance to, the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices (TSPC) requirements. |
