Focus on Faculty
For those of you who missed the September
24, 1998 satellite telecast entitled "Focus on Faculty: Effective
Pedagogy with Students who are Deaf," you're in luck because the
video is now available for purchase!
A faculty panel shares with other faculty
members principles, strategies and thoughts on effective pedagogy to integrate
students who are deaf into mainstream classrooms.
Encouraging and managing classroom participation;
Ensuring access to classroom information,
captioned media, visual aids, special techniques/challenges;
Evaluating written projects;
Using assistive listening devices;
Making in-class accommodations;
Thoughts on using realtime captioning and
other service providers;
Teaching through a sign language interpreter;
Grading speeches when a sign language interpreter
Advising fellow faculty members on working
with students who are deaf;
Working with visual learners.
Postsecondary educators of students who are
Faculty and students of Deaf education/Deaf
Professionals and other members of the campus
community who work with deaf students.
Others interested members of the Deaf community
(Deaf adults, parents, sign language students, interpreters, etc.).
