Steve Wojcikiewicz - Areas of Expertise

My research interests center on psychological and philosophical issues in education, focusing in particular the effects of educational systems on students’ development as individuals and as citizens. My dissertation was a study of the educative effects of the culture of high-achievement in high school. My current research is aimed at opening up educational psychology, philosophy, and practice to see how students learn the “what,” “how,” and “why” of school subjects. I am developing a categorical system of learning, based on the work of John Dewey and Charles S. Peirce, which will allow teachers to utilize insights from the major perspectives in educational psychology in order to teach deliberately and artistically. Connecting this work to my teaching experiences, I am also extending my research into pedagogy and assessment in teacher preparation, and into program design and evaluation in out-of-school time and experiential education.
