Dr. Julia Smith has been affiliated with Western
Oregon University since 1984, first as director of Disability Services and counselor
in the Counseling Center, then as a professor in the Rehabilitation
Counselor Education graduate program. She has also worked as a mental health
therapist with deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing individuals and couples
for over 26 years. Julia's
current research interest is the transition from high school to college of
students who are deaf, as well as the life experiences of traditional-aged
deaf students in mainstream colleges. She is married to a man who is
Deaf and has two adult children.
