Welcome to the College of Education
The College of Education at Western Oregon University is a place where students, faculty, and staff work together to make the world a better place. We are here to help you achieve your dreams and to excel in your field of choice. Our students come from all parts of Oregon, many states, and several countries. We are looking for students from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences as we believe our differences are what bring us strength.
Our undergraduate programs of study span a wide range of fields including community health, exercise science, American Sign Language studies, teacher education, and early childhood education. We have graduate degree programs in information technology, rehabilitation counseling, special education, teacher education, and interpreting studies. In addition, we have specialized programs in autism, instructional design, reading, ESOL, and bilingual/ESOL.
Faculty in the College of Education are scholars, leaders, and innovators that want to work closely with students and pride themselves on being excellent teachers. For example, students and faculty regularly work together in our Exercise Science lab facilities studying movement, conducting research, and collecting and analyzing data. Faculty and students in this area have produced many joint publications and professional presentations indicative of the collaborative spirit in our College.
All programs in the College of Education require students to demonstrate the skills and knowledge they have learned through internships and practica. We believe strongly that what you learn in school must change what you can do out of school. The result is that our graduates leave campus with real world experience that helps them land good jobs quickly. Just ask one of our 90 teacher education graduates that signed contracts to work in Oregon schools this year!
You should also know that all programs in the College of Education are aligned to professional standards or learning outcomes identified by a professional field. Specifically, our educator preparation programs are nationally accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (formerly NCATE) and Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC), our rehabilitation counseling program is accredited by the Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE), and our interpreting programs are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE). This means that what you learn in our programs is valued by the professional fields in which you will work.
I hope you will choose to study in the College of Education at Western Oregon University. We help good people become great professionals. Stop by and say Hello!
