How to upload (i.e. link) a document in Moodle.

Documents can be added to a course in three ways:

Drag and drop

Browse and add

Process:

Linking

  1. Open the Moodle course.
  2. Select and open the activity or resource the document will be added to.
  3. Go to the “Administration” block (left side) and select “Edit settings.”
  4. Scroll down to “Page content” and enter the title of the document.
  5. Highlight the text and select the “Link” icon in the text editor toolbar.
  6. The “Create link” dialog box will display.
  7. Select “Browse repositories” and the File Picker will display.
  8. To the right of Attachment, select “Browse.”
  9. Locate and select the document, and press “Open” (bottom right corner).
  10. The title of the file will now display to the right of “Choose File.”
  11. When complete, select the “Upload this file” button.
  12. The text that you originally highlighted will now display as a blue link in the page.
  13. Scroll to the bottom of the page and select either the “Save and return to course” or “Save and display.”

Drag and drop

  1. Open the Moodle course.
  2. Select “Turn editing on” (top right corner).
  3. Locate the document on your computer.
  4. Left click on the mouse, hold, and drag the document into the Moodle course.
  5. To drop the document release the left mouse button.
  6. By default, Moodle will place the document at the bottom of a module.
    1. To move a resource select the four sided arrow, hold, and drag to a desired location.


Browse and add

  1. Open the Moodle course
  2. Select and open the activity or resource the document will be added to
  3. Go to the “Administration” block (left side) and select “Edit settings”
  4. Select the “Add” icon in the “File submissions” box
  5. Select the “Browse…” button in the “File picker” dialog box
  6. Locate and select the document, and press “Open” (bottom right corner)
  7. The title of the file will now display to the right of the “Browse…” button
  8. When finished, select “Upload this file”
