Trips
The Outdoor Program provides a common adventurer willing to share experience and educate participants about Leave No Trace principles. Each participant is a common adventurer and is responsible for their own decisions and behavior. Participants are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is courteous and considerate of the diverse group of individuals that may also be participating in the activity. Please email Campus Recreation for information regarding trips.

Fall 2018

Silver Falls 
We will depart from the HWC at 9:00am, for Silver Falls State Park. This is a relaxing day hike opportunity to see fall foliage and waterfalls while on a paved trail. A section of the Trail of Ten Falls will offer the best opportunity for photographing the waterfalls this fall. We will park at the South Falls Day-use area and hike from South Falls to Winter Falls where we will turn around or complete our loop along the Rim Trail.

Winter 2019

Central Oregon Avalanche Association Presentation

Information: “Know Before You Go” – is a FREE avalanche awareness education program developed to provide the basics of what avalanches look like, how people trigger them, their destructive power and how to recognize avalanche terrain, recognize obvious signs of instability, safe travel practices, the basics of avalanche rescue equipment and self-rescue procedures, and where to obtain information about current avalanche conditions and answer any questions you might have.

Snowshoe/Hike Opal Creek Falls
We will depart from the HWC at 9:00 am for Opal Creek State Park. This is a stimulating day for snowshoeing or hiking. The views of the ancient forest are quite dramatic under snow. Snowshoes will be provided for those interested in snowshoeing (and assuming there is snow). This is a moderately easy 7 mile (round trip) loop including waterfalls, an old mining town, and remains of a former sawmill site.

Spring 2019

Sahalie Falls and Tamolitch Falls
We will depart from the HWC at 9:00am, for Sahalie Falls and Tamolitch Falls. Sahalie Falls is a quick stop for the viewing area that offers a magnificent waterfall and a scenic forest area. Tamolitch Falls is a mild 4-mile hike through the wooded forest and a lava field. The end of the trail leads to the well known Blue Pool, where the best opportunity for photographing will be. Parking will be at the beginning of the trail off of the McKenzie River Highway.

Cape Perpetua Scenic Area
We will depart from the HWC at 9:00am for Cape Perpetua Scenic Area on the Oregon Coast. This trip explores the various creatures and wonders of the Pacific Ocean Wildlife inside the tidepools along the water’s edge. Expect to get wet and bring an extra pair of clothes. Walk along the beach as well and have a relaxing day here. Many opportunities to take pictures are available as well.

Dependents or partners directly accompanied by a WOU student/staff/faculty may join our trips.  Dependents required to be in a car or booster seat can still join our trips, but must be driven separately in a personal vehicle and MUST be indicated on the registration form.

Refund and No-Show Policy
If a participant no-shows on two trips within an academic year, they will be restricted from signing up for another trip that academic year. To avoid being a no-show, please call the Health and Wellness Center 503-838-9530 as soon as possible, if you will not be able to attend a trip.

  • If you cancel 2 weeks or more before the trip start date, you will receive a full refund. If you cancel within the two-week window, you will not receive a refund.
  • If we cancel a trip due to weather or low-enrollment, we will issue a full refund.
