Retention: It Takes a Campus
Dr. Kristin Mauro
January 17, 2017 – 5:30-7:30 PM
Prior to accepting her position at Western Oregon University, Kristin Mauro was the First Year Experience Coordinator and Academic Advising Coordinator for Construction Engineering at Iowa State University. During this time, she was responsible for ensuring students’ academic success by focusing on their first year experience while paying particular attention to how effectively they were transitioning from the demands of high school to the demands of college. In addition to teaching the first year experience course, she also developed a mentoring program for the peer mentor’s leadership development. Her passion lies in ensuring all students have the support they need to complete their degrees.
As an educator and student affairs professional, Kristin Mauro has co-authored several journal articles. Her most influential article, “Retaining Women Students in a Construction Engineering Undergraduate Program by Balancing Integration and Identity in Student Communities” was published in the International Journal of Construction Education and Research in July 2012. She earned a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Graduate Certificate in Applied Research Methods from Iowa State University; an MA in Human Sciences emphasizing Marriage and Family Therapy and Sociology from Our Lady of the Lake University; and received a BA in Psychology from the University of Iowa.
