Minors in Art, Visual Communication Design, and Art History

The Art Department offers minors in Visual Communication Design and Art History.
For students majoring in Art or VCD, the Art History minor requires a higher number of upper-division Art History courses.

Visual Communication Design Minor  36 credits

A 120 Foundations of Digital Art & Design (4)
A 130 Beginning Drawing (4)

Introductory Courses 

A 220 Intro to Typography (4)
A 262 Digital Images & Photography (4)

Upper-division courses

in Graphic Design, Interactive Media, Print Design, or Video & Animation (see advisor) (12))
All upper-division courses require prerequisites. See your advisor.

 

Art History Minor  28 credits

200 Level Art History Survey Courses

A 204 Pre-History to Late Antiquity (4)
A 205 Middle Ages – Renaissance (4)
A 206 Baroque – Contemporary (4)

Choose 4 upper-division Art History courses, with at least 2 from the 300-level (see advisor) (16)

A 304 Modernism I (4)
A 305 Modernism II (4)
A 306 Modernism III (4)
A 404C Non-Western Art (4)
A 405C Gender in Art (4)
A 406W Special Topics (4-8)*
*A406W may be repeated up to three times with different course topics

 

Art History Minor for Art Majors or Visual Communication Design Majors  20 credits

The 200-level Art History sequence is already required for students majoring in Art or Visual Communication Design.

Choose five additional upper-division Art History courses to fulfill the Art History minor:
