Friday, October 4 - Making WOU Happen

Making WOU Happen is designed for visiting high school groups and community-based organizations.  Registration should be completed by a counselor, teacher or chaperone.

Admissions status
High school seniors who provide a complete admission file at check-in will receive notification of their admission status at the conclusion of the program. Payment or a fee deferral form for the $60 application fee will not be required due to WOU providing fee deferrals. Seniors who wish to participate in our Instant Wolf program are required to provide the following:

  • A complete application for admission – Students are strongly encouraged to submit an online application using the “Pay with Deferral” option prior to the program.
  • Official high school transcript
  • ACT or SAT scores are required for students who do not meet our minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.00. Scores are also required for students who wish to pursue Teacher Education as their intended major, designated scholarships, NCAA athletics, and admission to the Honors Program.
  • A letter of recommendation or personal statement is required for students who do not meet our minimum cumulative GPA requirement of 3.00.
  • Tuition Equity: Seniors who qualify for Tuition Equity should provide a completed Request for Exemption from Nonresident Tuition and Fees Form at check-in.

High school and transfer students are invited to spend the day at Western Oregon University in October. The program is free for students and their guests. High school seniors and transfer students are invited to apply for Fall Term 2020 admission at check-in.

High school seniors and their families from Marion, Polk, and Yamhill County are invited to spend the day at Western Oregon University. WOU students and staff will be facilitating tours, information sessions, and other activities in Spanish to ensure that we are addressing the needs of our future Wolves and their families (WOU facilitarán recorridos guiados, sesiones informativas, y otras actividades en español para asegurarnos de que estamos dirigiendo las necesidades de nuestros futuros lobos estudiantiles y sus familias.) The program is intended for seniors who are admitted to WOU and students who are still exploring their college options.

Register for the program by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 17.

Seniors who provide a complete admission file by Thursday, October 17 will receive notification of the admission status at check-in.  A complete admission file includes the following:

Monotype Printmaking (Both sessions)
Description: Create a one-of-a-kind “trace transfer” image by pressing various materials (pencils, textured objects, fingertips, etc) against thin printing paper that has been laid on an inked Plexiglas plate.
Maximum capacity: 20 students | Location: CH 209 | Instructor: Professor Becca McCannell


Steampunk Insect Workshop (Morning session only)
Description: Create a futuristic insect specimen using clay, discarded metal pieces, and wire. This workshop combines “steampunk” (science fiction featuring steam- powered machinery) with entomology (the science of insects) to create futuristic, robotic insects that appear to be powered by gears and mechanicals.
Maximum capacity: 20 students | Location: CH 012

Photoshop Compositing (Both sessions)
Description: Students will learn a basic technique for combining two images in Photoshop.

Expressive Digital Images (morning session only)

Fall Preview Day is WOU’s most comprehensive visit experience, allowing prospective students and their guests to learn about our academic programs, meet our outstanding professors and explore opportunities for involvement on campus. Students are also invited to apply for Fall 2020 admission at check-in (see details below).

Registration is required

Online registration closed at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019. If you are a high school counselor or community college staff member and wish to register a large group of students for the program, please contact June McMillan at mcmillanj@wou.edu.

Please check-in at the Werner University Center no later than 8:30 a.m. Signs will guide students and their guests to parking lots reserved for Preview Day.

Friday, December 6 - Fall Application Workshop

High school seniors and transfer students who wish attend Western Oregon University Fall Term 2020 are invited to attend the workshop. Staff from the Office of Admissions will help students fill out the application for undergraduate admission. Students also will receive an overview of scholarship opportunities, tour the campus and enjoy a complimentary lunch.

Registration:

Students are required to register for the workshop and seating is limited. Registration for family members and guests is limited to one per student. Online registration will close at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5th, or when registration reaches maximum capacity (whichever comes first).

The non-renewable $2,000 scholarship is only valid for a new transfer student and will be awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year. The recipient must be present during Preview Day in its entirety.

    Monday, February 17 - President's Day Visit

    Prospective students are invited to spend the day at Western Oregon University on Monday, February 17. The program is free for students and their guests. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore academic options, learn about the admissions process, tour campus, and eat lunch in Valsetz Dining Hall. Students are also invited to apply for Fall Term 2020 admission at the event with guidance from Admissions Office staff.

    Registration will close on Friday, February 14 at 12:00 p.m. Groups are welcomed to attend, but students must register individually through the link above.

    If you plan to go on the morning tour (optional), please report to the Office of Admissions located in the Academic Programs and Support Center starting at 9:30 a.m. and no later than 10:00 a.m. You might want to give yourself some extra time with parking. You can park in any lot available. A pass can be obtained from the Office of Admissions. Parking along a street parking space is aloud and does not require a pass.

    If you do not plan to attend the morning optional tour you can check in starting at 10:30am in the Werner University Center. Parking will be in Lot G, behind the football stadium.

    Wednesday, March 4 - Criminal Justice Careers Day

    Prospective students and their guests are required to register online.     Interested in a future in the criminal justice field?

    If you are interested in a future in the criminal justice field, Criminal Justice Careers Day is the perfect time to explore educational and employment opportunities. High school and college students are welcome to attend this event. Explore the fields of law enforcement, corrections, parole and probation, community crime prevention and other criminal justice professions during the Career Opportunities Panel. Meet with representatives from law enforcement, correctional institutions, detention and jail facilities, juvenile and adult probation and parole programs and various special service fields at the career fair. Obtain information about college degree programs, academy training and employment opportunities. Eat lunch at Valsetz Dining Hall and tour campus with a WOU student ambassador. Faculty representatives from the criminal justice department and the Admissions Office will also be available.

    Registration is Required

    Online registration closes at 5 p.m. two days prior to the event.

    Program Check-in

    Please report to the Second Floor of the Werner University Center (WUC). Check the Visitation Program above that you would like to attend for the time.

    Parking

    There will be signs to guide students and their guests to parking lot(s) for the program.

    Attire

    Students and their guests are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes due to the fact they will be touring the campus. Be sure to visit the Bookstore and acquire some WOU attire!
