WHAT IS THE ELECTRONIC DIRECTORY WEB SERVER ---------------------------- The Electronic Directory Web Server installs the telephone directories you select and creates a self-extracting executable which the Web user will use to install the product on their computer. The Web Server also comes with a default HTML page for downloading the self-extracting executable. HOW TO INSTALL THE WEB SERVER --------------------------------------- For Windows NT servers: Execute the following from your Run prompt: :\setup.exe (Note: If you have installed The Electronic Directory on a LAN or Application Server, you must uninstall the previous server before installing the new Electronic Directory for the Web.) Provide your end-users with the URL to the Download.htm page and instruct them to: Open Download.htm with their browser Click on products hyperlink to download the setupex.exe file Execute setupex.exe on their computer For UNIX servers: Execute the following from the shell prompt: //intranet/unix/setup.sh Provide your end-users with the URL for the product's content directory and the URL for the Download.htm page, then instruct them to: Open Download.htm with their browser Click on the product hyperlink to download the setupex.exe file Execute setupex.exe on their computer Enter the URL for of the product's content directory when prompted. INSTALLING ADDITIONAL DIRECTORIES ------------------------------- For Windows NT: The installation software always performs an uninstall to safeguard against old book data remaining on your system. The Web Server install will recognize which books were previously installed and automatically select those books to be reinstalled. You can add or remove books from the directory dialog box. For UNIX servers: To safeguard against old book data remaining on your system, remove all content under the server directory. This would be the directory specified during the install process. After the content has been removed, follow the above install instructions for your operating system.
