Coach Bartlett begins 16th season at Western Oregon

Since 1993 WOU assistant coach John Bartlett has been a component of the Western Oregon Football program. 2008 marks John’s 16th season as Western’s receiver coach. His other football duties include kicking coach, all film exchange with other schools during the season, NFL liaison, and all travel arrangments. Coach Bartlett also represents Western Oregon at Colony High School in Wasilla, Alaska (one of his recruiting areas) for a week at the All Alaska Football Camp. Teaching in the Physical Education Department is another duty that Coach Bartlett takes on and he also leads a workshop with his brother Ed called Adventure in Education (See link below). "These past 16 years have been a wonderful experience at Western. The friendships with players, coaches, teachers and support staff is something I will treasure long after I leave WOU." said Bartlett. John and his wife Katherine, who is executive director of the HALO program in Polk County (www.haloprogram.org), make their home in Independence, Oregon.

Coach Bartlett Runs Rivers in the Summer

Coach Bartlett spends his summers running rivers which have included the Deschutes, the Rogue, the Santiam, and the McKenzie. John guides for his brother Ed who is owner of a rafting company called Blue Fish. The company specializes in experiential education through outdoor activities (rafting, challenge course, etc.) for schools, sports teams, alternative education programs, businesses, civic leaders, and other groups that are interested in building teamwork, communication, trust and personal growth for their students or employees. Adventure Education is just such a class which is a college credit class offered by John and his brother Ed for Western Oregon University in the summers but can be applied to any educational format to fit the needs of the individual program.

Ed Bartlett (L) and John Bartlett (R) Started Adventure in Education in 2000. The successful class still runs today
and has been incorporated into the curriculum at Western Oregon University and has high praise from it's students.
The class of 2004 is pictured on the right including Randy Nyquist, Head Football Coach, (pictured in the front),
of West Albany High School and Travis Reeser, Head Football Coach of Mollala High School,(standing in the middle).
They both have incorporated what they learned in the adventure class and have taken it to their own teams. Ed has been a
consultant for Randy on Team Building and Leadership Methods. Randy contributes these methods to his team's success.
